Love Letter from God

This time last year, I was in a deep wilderness time. I felt lost, I was broken up emotionally, and I was at loose ends. Many of the things I usually spent my time doing, such as caring for my kids, helping lead groups at church, working part time, helping in classrooms…had all been stripped away. Some I had purposefully taken a break from; others just faded and disappeared for a time.

My littlest had just started preschool, and instead of doing more with that “extra” time each week, I knew God had asked me to do less. I knew I was supposed to stop “all striving” and be still, but I didn’t know why.

Walking in my neighborhood one day (literally crying), I asked God to please show me my purpose and what he wanted me to do each day. His answer surprised me:

“I miss you. I want to spend time with you. I want some quality time…just the two of us.”

His still small voice was vibrant and alive that day as I blubbered and walked. I knew right then that I wasn’t supposed to do anything with my extra time; I was just supposed to be with Him.

That started me on a wild journey and amazing adventure. It was a wilderness time, a preparation time, an emotional time, a confusing time…and a beautiful time.

I believe God calls to you today with the same message, whether you have 6 hours a week or 6 minutes a day to yourself (or no minutes to even go to the bathroom alone). He wants to spend time with you, Beloved! He’s right here, right now. All you have to do is say, “Hi, Lord. It’s me.”

Last fall wasn’t my first (nor will it be my last) “wilderness time.” I know you’ve had one before, or you may be in one now…and if you haven’t had one, you’ll have it soon. So won’t you join me in a grand adventure to experience the JOY of KNOWING HIM MORE in every aspect of life, in every season, in every day?

Going “into the wild” with Jesus is really about going deep. It’s about giving him our greatest fears and our biggest dreams…and running hand-in-hand with him through thick and through thin. Going “into the wild” also means being skin-to-skin with our Savior when life is rocky and life gets wild. It means we cling to the side of the Rock when the winds blow and the rains pound. It means flinging our arms open wide in worship when He speaks to our hearts. It’s singing at the tops of our lungs for the JOY Jesus gives.

I promised you a Letter from God. Well, here’s the first love letter from Him to you: “I have loved you with an everlasting love; Therefore I have drawn you with lovingkindness.” Jeremiah 31:3

Write that on the wall today and look at it every day. He has LOVED you with an everlasting love. He has DRAWN you to himself with loving kindness.

God wants to spend time with you every day, throughout the day. God has made you a wild, wonderful creature–and he LOVES to spend time with you.

Blessings to you!
Rachel

    1. Thank you! I’m so glad you enjoyed it.

  2. Love this post! Thank you for this reminder that just as in the case of Elijah, our “wilderness” moments or seasons, are meant for us to get to know our savior at a level that we have yet to experience him in. I love how the Lord spoke to you so clearly during that hard season and how you sought after him and waited on him.

    1. I love this. So true that we get to know Jesus in a way we never could if we didn’t go through those times.
