Hudson Taylor’s Spiritual Secret

“From two to four A. M. was the time he usually gave to prayer; the time when he could be most sure of being undisturbed to wait upon God. That flicker of candlelight has meant more to them than all they have read or heard on secret prayer; it meant reality, not preaching but practice.” –Hudson Taylor’s Spiritual Secret

I wanted to share one of my favorite biographies for non fiction Friday. This book was introduced to me by my pastor many years ago, and when I read it … my heart was set on fire like never before.

Hudson Taylor’s story was life-changing for me personally. But I also felt as though I had discovered a gold mine as a reader. My eyes were opened to a world I knew little about and a style of writing that has since become one of my most favorites. I never thought I could enjoy non fiction so much until I discovered Christian missionary stories and testimonies. Reading them is a balm for the weary heart.

Over the years, I’ve read the stories of Christians all around the world, both now and throughout history. I’ve never been a great history buff, but I’ve learned so much by reading personal stories. Once you discover the joy of this kind of reading, you’ll be hooked.

If you haven’t read this book, or if you know little about Church history and missionary stories, this is a fabulous place to start. Hudson Taylor, founder of the China Inland Mission, was a man called and set apart. The way he lived, served, and prayed is sure to encourage you and stir up your faith.

  1. Hi Rachel, this is a beautiful book. Where do you get all these beautiful books you
put up? Amazon or antique shops? Romance is a dying thing, but God is gentle and caring. 🙏❤️

    1. A lot of my older books are from when I was growing up, but most of my new books are from Amazon or AbeBooks. This edition is still available on Amazon I believe!
