Jane Austen’s nickname in her rather affectionate family was “Jenny” when she was young. This book takes a peek into what life may have been like for Jane when she was a girl.
When her parents comment on her brother being the writer in the family, Jenny wonders, “…could there be only ONE writer in a family?” She notes that her mother and father are both clever and witty in their writing and letters. She thinks that she might be another “writer in the family.”
Pliscou did a wonderful job of researching the book and gives all of her references in the second half of the book, which means that those of us who love to “nerd out” on Jane Austen can read up on the biographical and historical elements. Double the fun!
This book is beautiful, inside and out. The illustrations by Massimo Mongiardo are simply lovely. This whole book feels a bit like Little House in the Big Woods meets Jane Austen. I only wish it was longer or a series. It’s a really wonderful book. I’m going to share it with my daughter next!
